The Ski Flying World Championships 2018 were thus held in Oberstdorf for the sixth time. Daniel-André Tande became the individual ski flying world champion ahead of Kamil Stoch and Richard Freitag. The Ski Flying World Team Champions were Norway, ahead of Slovenia and Poland.
Nineteen competitions were held, including twelve in cross-country skiing, four in ski jumping and three in Nordic combined. The ski jumping competitions were held on the Schattenberg ski jump, which is also one of the four hills used for the annual Four Hills Tournament.
There were changes again in cross-country skiing. For the first time, a team sprint competition was held for women and men. The skiathlon was given different course lengths: 7.5 km classic + 7.5 km freestyle for the women (previously 5 + 5), 15.5 km classic + 15.5 km freestyle for the men (previously 10 + 10). The competitions that were held alternately from major event to major event, once in classic and once in freestyle – 15 km for women and 30 km for men – were no longer held.
